![]() Interview: John Hodgman, author and Daily Show "resident expert"Posted by Paul Little | Friday, December 12, 2008 @ 7:00pmIf you have not yet picked up Mr. Hodgman's book, More Information Than You Require, I highly recommend you do so now. It's a hilarious follow-up to 2006's The Areas of My Expertise, a "complete world almanac" brilliantly lacking any real facts. Every piece of information came from the incredibly creative and clever mind of John Hodgman who, if you haven't read his books, you may know from his appearances on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart or as the PC in Apple Computers' "Get a Mac" ads. Now he's done it again, with a book The Montreal Gazette called, "Equal parts Jon Stewart, Woody Allen, and Eugène Ionesco..." and to which his "Get a Mac" ads co-star Justin Long stated, "I love this book so much I nearly read it." Review: Bedtime StoriesPosted by Luke Schick | Thursday, December 25, 2008 @ 3:22pmBedtime Stories, directed by Adam Shankman and starring Adam Sandler, is the timeless tale of a jerk uncle with a big heart that simultaneously tries to win the affection of his niece and nephew while furthering his career in the hotel biz by telling them fantastic bedtime stories that are somehow magically coming true. That run-on sentence is the premise of Mr. Sandler's second foray into theaters this year. While I haven't seen the poorly recieved You Don't Mess with Zohan, I believe that Bedtime Stories will fare much better in the box office and with his fans. It already won over this moviegoer. Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonPosted by Sarah Kim | Wednesday, December 24, 2008 @ 2:28amThe Curious Case of Benjamin Button is based around a love story, a true love story about compassion, companionship and loyalty. There is no room for regrets. Things happen and you deal with them as they come. Opportunities arise, and you need to take hold of those opportunities and do with it the best that you can. Survivor Gabon: The Good Guys Should Win in the End / Say Goodbye to GabonPosted by Erik Reichenbach | Thursday, December 18, 2008 @ 5:23pmSorry for the lateness of this review, but I've been a little bit busy. I had the opportunity of actually going to the Survivor Gabon Finale this Sunday so I just recently got back to Michigan and in front of my computer. It was a hell of an after party, I must say. This season may have gotten off to a rocky start, but the ending was completely worth it! I was extremely pleased with the winner this year, although I would have liked if Sugar won the Fan Favorite money. It's all good, in my opinion, and I haven't really felt this satisfied over a winner of Survivor since probably Season 10 (Palau). Normally someone who is depicted in a more negative light usually wins, and consequentially, motivates me to watch the next season of Survivor so that maybe one of the good guys can have a chance at winning. With Bob, Susie, and Sugar in the final three I was pretty content with whoever won. Golden Globe Nominations: TelevisionPosted by Paul Little | Friday, December 12, 2008 @ 4:56amThis has been a strange year for television. The writers' strike threw a big wrench into 07-08 TV season, and even relegated last year's Golden Globes to a press conference rather than the booze-filled Party of the Stars it normally is. Then, when some promising freshman shows from last season -- which were held off the schedule post-strike to try and launch fresh in the fall -- returned, they pretty much all crashed and burned, and the new season has brought us only one solid hit and a couple minor ones. It's all too bad, really, since the quality of television (or at least the best of the best) has arguably never been so strong. But according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation -- who announced the nominees for the 66th Golden Globes on Thursday -- most of that strength is on cable. Only 3 out of the 10 nominees for Best Drama and Best Comedy were network shows, and 2 of them -- The Office and 30 Rock -- air on 4th place NBC. Instead, cable darlings like Dexter, In Treatment, Mad Men, and Weeds lead the way with the most series nominations, and HBO's John Adams and Recount have the most for TV movie/mini-series. The complete list of nominees is after the jump. Golden Globe Nominations: FilmPosted by Paul Little | Friday, December 12, 2008 @ 4:16amThe season is upon us... joy to the world! No, I'm not talking about the holiday season -- I'm talking about Hollywood awards season. The Emmys and Grammys always get things started in the fall, early every new year are the 2 big film awards: The Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. The Globes start off first in January, and the nominations just came out Thursday. The big film nominations included The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and In Brudges, while a couple over-the-top comedies -- Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express -- even scored acting nominations. A complete list of Golden Globe nominees for motion pictures is after the jump. The Office: Moroccan ChristmasPosted by Ariana | Friday, December 12, 2008 @ 2:20amIn the opener, Dwight walks in to a gift-wrapped desk, computer, and office supplies, courtesy of... you guess who. Jim brags that it took him about five minutes to do, because he’s got a black belt in gift-wrapping. Dwight says he can skin a mule deer in under 10 minutes, so he can unwrap this in five; Jim’s not so sure, and here’s why: as Dwight sets his briefcase on top of his desk, the whole thing collapses. Brilliant! A cardboard desk! I admire Jim’s commitment. Phyllis, for her first Christmas as head party planner, has put together a “Nights in Morroco” themed Christmas party for the office (“Not your grandmother’s Christmas party... unless your grandmother’s from Morocco,” she informs us), complete with lush draperies all around the office and fez hats for the men. (I don’t know if that’s like saying “hat hats,” but I couldn’t wrap my brain around pluralizing the word “fez.” These are the things that keep me up at night.) House: Joy to the WorldPosted by Sarah Miller | Thursday, December 11, 2008 @ 12:59amChristmastime is here, get ready for a tear jerker folks. The team treats a 16 year old girl with multiple organ failure, and House attempts to spread some Christmas cheer. Grab your Kleenex and your eggnog (or your eggnog latte), this might just be the episode where all your Christmas wishes come true. Survivor Gabon: The Good Things in Life Aren't EasyPosted by Erik Reichenbach | Tuesday, December 9, 2008 @ 10:14pmI don’t have too much to say about this episode, other then I am in eager anticipation for the final two episodes! It was only a month ago I was detesting the season for its boring episodes and the endless losing streak of Fang, but its amazing what a merge and a few sleeping strategists can do! I must admit, although there are only a few castaways left I truly want to see win, every one of them brings something to these final episodes. Either the people are that different or the Survivor editors are in full swing. The Amazing Race 13: You Look Like Peter PanPosted by Ariana | Monday, December 8, 2008 @ 3:06amAh, here we are at last: the finale, the episode with perhaps the most accurate title quote of the season. Will this season, like so many others, be determined by last-leg taxi karma? Click through to find out! SYTYCD Canada: 4 to 1Posted by Ariana | Monday, December 8, 2008 @ 2:53amIt’s all over. Did you watch it? If not, click to drop below the jump and find out whether things ended as predictably as I predicted they would, or whether one of our Calgary Flames pulled out an upset (because you all know Natalli’s not winning this thing).
